A speedboat insurance scam worth £25,000 has resulted in three men being found guilty on fraud charges.
The first scam involving a Maxum 2300, occurred in September 2006 when the boat was reported stolen by a gentleman who has now passed away, following the purchase from a Mr Fox in Basildon. Mr Fox advised the insurers that this was the case, enabling the assailants to receive a payout of £25,000; two others then tried to carry out the scam in February 2007 on the same boat but failed, leading to the investigation in to the theft of a non existing boat.
Mr Fox, along with Mr Stock, Mr Alabaster and Mr Brooks were all found guilty on the change of fraud, receiving different charges dependant on their circumstance and acts within the scam.
The investigation found that Brooks had played his part in the crime by creating documentation, including letters, photographs and documents. The boat was discovered to have never been owned to any of the assailants, the original owner was found to have had no involvement with the boat insurance scam.
