Car clamping firms from Wednesday 26 August, have been informed that they must apply to new rules and sign up to an official trade association if they wish to continue trading, following the number of ludicrous charges that many motorists have been issued with.
The rogue parking firms, which have caused misery to 1 in 10 UK motorists, are being forced to comply to the new rules. Up until August 26, anybody could set up their own company to cause havoc to drivers who were parking outside parking lines or on private property.
The new legislation can also prevents unofficial car-clamping companies from obtaining driver details form the Driver and Vehicle Licence Agency; this can now only be obtained if they agree to abide by a strict code of conduct. Any company found breaking the code would not be blacklisted, but approached by the British Parking Association (BPA) with a disciplinary process to help them improve.
The new rules hope to bring fairness for those drivers who have made that simple mistake of going over a parking line, or left their vehicle for one minute too long.
