Agency staff suffer burnt faces due to company negligence

Two agency workers have been left with facial burns, following an accident with chemicals at an explosive company they had been contracted to work.

The workers, who had only been working for the company for a matter of weeks, had been asked to mix some chemicals. They had began mixing however the vapor which had been built up above the liquid ignited sending flames shooting up in to the men's faces. They both suffered singed hair and burnt faces.

Anglo Adhesives and Services in Melton should have not given the inexperienced workers the job to carry out. It was also discovered by The Health and Safety Executive that the agency staff had not been provided with adequate equipment to carry out such a job. They pleaded guilty to breaching the dangerous substances explosive atmosphere regulations as well as the Health and Safety at Work Act, leaving them with fines of £15,000 as well as £35,500 in costs.
