Brits are being reminded that if they are letting their home, or even just a bedroom to a lodger they must inform their house insurance provider as the cover they have may be invalid in the event of a claim.
In the UK, currently 720,000 people are letting out a bedroom as times become hard and they need that extra little bit of income, however many insurance policies will add special endorsements on to the policy in the event of a theft for example; these figures have risen from 243,000 since last year.
Premiums and the cover provided by an insurance company will be impacted on when the home is let out or if you have lodgers. If you are thinking about doing either of those you should contact your house insurance provider in the first instance. Please be advised that your lodger or tenants must insure their own contents as these will not be covered under your contents insurance policy.
Lower Premium can drive down the cost of your house insurance and let property insurance with competitive premiums from leading UK insurers
