A Cumbrian boat builder has spoken of his success following his decision to give up his full time job and start his own business.
The Good Wood Boat Company is owned by Mr. Beresford, and one of the only builders of Redwing boats in the UK. he designes, repairs and restores the wooden boats; the first Redwing vessel he designed and built was in the national racing championships in the Scilly Isles this summer, it took him 1,000 hours to build and came fifth in the race.
The Redwing was first designed in 1938 and is used for racing. So far he has built one boat, and sold another, however he plans on building three or four next year to get his business rolling.
Mr. Beresford was an engineer by trade, but gave up his full time job to begin the building of the Redwing boats to give him a more productive, creative career. He began his new found business with the help of West Cumbria Development Agency, however in the future he hopes to expand by employing a team of skilled craftsman.
