As flames licked the side of the Blackpool Grand Hotel on the night of Monday 26, July 100 people were evacuated from a night club and some 60 burning holiday flats.
The Grand Hotel was burnt to a crisp as only the empty shell was left standing on Tuesday morning after Lancashire Fire and Rescue were called to quell the blaze on Station Road. Over 250,000 litres of water was pumped from the Sandcastle Waterpark in town to control the blaze.
The hotel which was up for sale for over £1 million is set to be demolished as the fire ripped through the building causing walls and the floors to collapse and the roof to eventually cave in.
The owners buildings insurance is sure to serve him well with the vast devastation to which the cause of the fire is currently unknown, however fire investigators are not ruling out arson, - the most common cause of fires. It was a miracle that everyone escaped unharmed given the ferocity of the fire.
Nearby buildings were also evacuated as a precaution as smaller fires also started up due to burning hot debris being blown from the original fire by strong winds and anyone left without a bed was taken to the nearby Palatine Sports centre.
