Businessman to sue council over pothole damage to van

A Cumbrian businessman is to sue Cumbria County Council after he was offered just £100 compensation for damage to his van after striking a pothole in January 2008.

The pothole now filled in along with 1,516 others after a deluge of complaints from motorists, caused damage that lead to a claim for £785 including loss of earnings.

However since the accident the county councils insurers, Zurich, have only offered £100 in compensation for the claim.

After seven months of wrangling with the insurers he has finally lost patience and instructed his solicitors to begin court proceedings.
