Cheese sandwiches to save Vestas turbines

As the country enters economic decline, company’s are struggling to keep afloat and many businesses have been forced to close the doors of many UK based factories.

Several car companies including General Motor’s Vauxhall and Nissan have both been forced to close plants in recent weeks and other industries such as the Seafood Company has been forced to shut its site in Scotland.

It would seem that no industry is able to escape the closures as now the Vesta wind turbine factory on the Isle of Wight has announced plans to axe 625 jobs by the end of next week.

However, an interesting twist in this tale arises when factory workers protesting against Vesta’s closure, claim that the company has made massive profits in the last economic year. Plus plans to close the factory, which provides half the island with employment, is a rouse to move to cheaper operations abroad.

The factory workers have staged a long campaign tapping into new media resources by launching a ‘Save Vesta’ facebook group, to which hundreds have joined offering their virtual support. The group of protesters now face criminal prosecution as their 5 day sit-in of the factory reaches new heights.

A group of external protesters is also set to march from Newport to the factory to show their moral support. The barricaded men have green campaigners and union leaders to thank for providing them with cheese sandwiches and fizzy drink to sustain their efforts.

The Danish-owned Vesta claim that the reason for the plant closing was due to lack of demand on wind turbine in Northern Europe, which seems surprising due to the Governments enthusiastic approach to launching Europe’s biggest offshore wind farm in the next few years.

Lower premiums provides business insurance for companies and factories across the country with a vast supply of insurance providers to secure the cheapest insurance premium.
