We have all admired the leaping cat of Jaguar and the round medal of Mercedes having pride of place at the end of the bonnet, so Raymond smith proudly wanted to display a model of his handsome dog colonel on his Fiat Panda.
However after 55 years, the police have told Smith that if he does not remove the statuette he will face a fine and five pints on his licence, as the dog is a danger to the public.
Smith who had the bronze miniature commission shortly before the death of his dog as a token to remember him by in 1960, as he was the first pet he and his wife had when married.
Yet the police claim that the dog is a danger to the public in the event of a collision as other such monuments on the likes of Jaguar, Mercedes and Bentley cars are designed to fold flat on impact restricting the damage caused to a colliding party.
Smith regrets that he has had to move his beloved model, however as he now remarked, 'Colonel is now safely inside, in the warm.'
