Companies beware

The recent case of a big liability lawsuit has lead to all public liability insurance customers ensuring the use of health and safety procedures at work. The company Bracknell Roofing, from Kent were fined over £10,000 after pleading guilty to breaching the Work at Height Regulations. The comppany was found to have inadeiquete protection for edges and boarding by an inspector who stopped to investigate the breach of safety regulations.

The employees at the site refused to give the inspector the name of their manager at the time and also gave false names and contact information. Mr Woods Said: "Falls from height remain the most common kind of workplace fatality. The men were at risk of serious injury either from falling off the roof or the tower scaffold."

This case follows two other of its kind where two other scaffolding firms where fined around £126,000 after fatal accidents.
