Compensation has been awarded to a delivery driver after he injured his back while on his daily routine.
This is yet another case of an employer ignoring complaints from staff. In this instance the lack of support for newspaper on pallets loaded into the van was the cause for injury. John Atkin, from Sunderland received £22,000 in compensation for his injuries he sustained from the incident, unfortunately he has been unable to return to work as a result of the accident.
Mr Atkin said: "The union had complained about the way the vans were packed for some time. When my accident happened I decided to claim compensation because I thought it might make my employer sit up and take notice of our complaints."
Mr Atkin has now been forced to find alternative work, which in this current climate is very difficult but with his current restrictions he is very limited to the work he can carry out. The £22,000 that he received will hopefully offer some room to breath during this time.
