£57,000 has been awarded to a bin man who fell and injured his shoulder whilst carrying out his working duties.
The 55 year old bin man was collecting rubbish to be put in to the recycling cart when he tripped on a paving slab in Archer Road, Stevanage. He fell on to his left knee, also injuring his shoulder and elbow which took the brunt of the fall. Mr Shambrook has had to have several operations on his shoulder, leaving him in excruciating pain, has also had to give up his golfing hobby and taking his grandchildren swimming.
A cut in pay has had to be taken by the man as he had to give up his bin man job due to the lifting causing him pain. He is now a road sweeper which pays less wages, which has affected him and his wifes financial situation and it may be longer before he can take retirement.
Hertfordshire county council have paid out £57,000 in compensation after their neglect of maintenance of the pavement where Mr Shambrook fell.
