Continued rise in unemployment

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) are expected to realise figures shortly that will show another increase in the number of Brits out of work. These figures will highlight the number of young people under 25 in the UK that are currently jobless, where the figure is already 16.

The last figures released by the ONS showed that the number of unemployed Brits had risen by 244,000 in three months moving the overall figure to 2.22million, this number showed the highest rise in unemployed since 1981. The number of unemployed in the UK has been predicted to keep rising until autumn of next year. The Chartered Institute of Personal and Development believes that the public sector will be hit by another 350,000 job losses in the next 5 years.

One of the main worries for those that have lost their job is that they have only a six month period where unemployment kicks in. This is a worry as employers are less likely to employ those who have had long gaps of unemployment.
