A shocking survey has discovered that homeowners and landlords are having the gas appliances within their properties installed and fixed by cowboy gas fitters who are not qualified to carry out the task at hand.
Cowboy gas fitters carrying out 250 million jobs each year, putting the lives of families at risk. Over the last nine months, whilst the Gas Safety Register carried out the study, one in ten gas appliances were removed from homes that had been installed by a Cowboy as they were deemed as highly dangerous and life threatening, either due to leaking gas or serious faults that could be potentially harmful to people.
7,500 cowboy gas installers are estimated to be carrying out illegal jobs each year, including plumbing, kitchen and bathroom fitting, general building jobs and electrical work; all jobs that could be dangerous if they are not carried out by a professional.
Landlords and homeowners are reminded that when they are in need of a gas fitter, they should check their ID cards, to ensure that they are dealing with a fully qualified corgi registered professional. On the back of the workers ID card you will also be able to see what jobs they are legally able to carry out.
