Disposable income for the average UK family has dropped by more than £150 a year, shown by figures released by Asda’s monthly income tracker.
Although the government has decreased inflation, rising tax bills and a rise for the costs of groceries has hugely affected families who have to tighten their belt to make ends meet. The average income has risen from £657 to £680 a week, but after bills are paid and taxes have been taken, not much is left.
Holidays, going to the cinema and eating out are just a few non essential items that families like to do with their disposable income, and on average they only have £143 a week left once they have paid all the bills.
The survey, which was carried out by Asda, found that 10,000 of the people who took part have been doing extra shifts, selling their items on internet auction sites and even making their own clothes to try and increase their disposable income.
