Eye injury results in compensation payout

A plasterer who worked for the councils maintenance services department won compensation after loosing sight in one eye.

The man was working at a council property, digging floors and knocking down walls when he bent down he caught his eye on a cement mixers handle. The mixer normally has a protective cap on the handle, which protects the sharp metal handle, however over the years the protective cap had worn away and caused horrific injuries to his eye.

The injured man was taken to hospital where he learnt that the cornea had been ripped out. He underwent extensive surgery and treatment on his eye. However the damage to his eye was so severe he lost sight in it. He also suffered 6 attacks of kidney stones and developed glaucoma.

The council settled the case out of court and the plasterer received £32,000 compensation.
