The recession has caused an increase to a certain type of fraud over the past year, with more and more people getting jobs in order to have a fake accident to obtain compensation. A recent number of high profile cases have opened the eyes of police and insurers as they have seen a rise in the number of fake or staged claims in the workplace.
Insurers have warned companies of this new trend that has taken off in the UK, it seems that the claims do not involve just the one person it will involve a number of people. The number of 'crash-for-cash' claims have fallen recently after the police and Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) increased efforts in order to prevent them. This has caused the amount of these new workplace fraud cases to significantly rise.
The message being sent out is that insurers must be confident of their own health and safety standards and to ensure the intensions of their workforce. The groups that are involved in these fraudulent claims are well organised, any suspicions from an employer should be notified to the IFB.
