An agreement between the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the UK Government guarantees that flood insurance will remain available now and in the future.
The agreement will see the Government and the insurance industry working together to improve the understanding of flood risk.
It also places an emphasis on Government to implement a long term strategy for future flood prevention and funding.
More importantly the planning system is able to stop inappropriate developments in flood risk areas from being approved in the first place.
On the part of the insurers they will continue to make flood insurance part of their household and commercial insurance policies and offer cover to high risk areas under the proviso that plans are in place to improve the flood defences to an acceptable level.
As the floods of last year have shown having adequate insurance cover in place for your home or business is essential in the event of the worst happening again.
