A supermarket in Bury St Edmunds has introduced more of an environmentally friendly way to delivery its home deliveries by reverting back to its old fashioned ways with a hand cart.
The Waitrose store who introduced the new delivery method will be using the cart to deliver its home deliveries to customers that live within a mile of the store.
The cart, which for obvious reasons can’t carry anymore than 12 bags of shopping at one time is light weight and been fully insulated so that food can stay frozen and chilled for up to two hours.
The delivery staff who say that it is much quicker than trying to get their delivery vans around winding streets and finding parking spaces, take it in turns to deliver the food throughout the day.
Waitrose was founded back in 1904 when deliveries were made by bicycle and then by horse and cart. The new environmentally friendly hand held cart, which will cut carbon emissions and reduce traffic congestion hopes to be introduced to more of its 198 stores.
