Lack of training leads to workplace injury

£2000 has been awarded to a machinist after she was injured at work, due to not receiving adequate training for moving around heavy items.

The machinist, who injured her shoulder after moving around heavy boxes, had to take two weeks off of work to recover. Each boxed weighed up to 22kg, exceeding Health and Safety regulations, as well as the fact she had not received the training or equipment to move the box.

The injuries that she was left with still cause her much pain and discomfort. The ladies lawyer stated that, ‘these injuries could have been avoided if safety rules had been followed. Manual handling is one of the most common sources of injury at work, but yet one of the easiest to avoid if businesses protect their staff with the correct procedures’.
