Man dies after being crushed on a beach

An elderly man was crushed to death after being trapped by a bulldozer while working on a beach in Chichester. Police where called to West Sands Caravan Park beach on Friday morning to find the 60-year-old man in a critical condition. Paramedics were already at the scene by the time police arrived and where treating the man who had managed to free himself before help arrived.

He is thought to have been carrying out work on the beaches shore defences when the incident occurred. After treating the man as best they could the paramedics decided that they needed to get him further medical attention, unfortunately he died in the ambulance on the way to St Richard's Hospital.

The Health and Safety Executive and police will be launching an investigation into what happened.
