A new report published by the EEF has revealed that there has been a sizeable growth in manufacturing demand. This has come as a shock to manufacturers as some were forced to downsize a number of employees over the past 18 months due to a lack in demand. This has caused some concern to health and safety officials as they feel that the increased demand in output mixed with a lack of staff could lead to an increase in accidents at work.
Manufacturers tend to base their employee number on the amount of clients and work coming in. Since the decrease in demand in 2007 many have slowly reduced their employee numbers. Figures now suggest that this sudden increase in demand will give companies little time to employ staff resulting in overworked workers and injuries at work.
It is advised to all manufacturing companies to prepare for this increase by tightening rules and regulations on health and safety to ensure the well being of all employees. Another measure that should be taken is to check business contents insurance as companies may find that their current cover does not meet the amount of goods they have within the premises.
