A local shop in West Yorkshire, which has been around since 1856, that has survived two world wars and the great depression of the 30’s, has found modern times and the current climate just too hard, and has been forced to close.
Roger Wilson the shopkeeper is disgusted that the oldest independent store of its kind will be closing its doors for good on February 27th. He says, “takings are usually very slow in the three months after Christmas, but this year is the worst they have ever been.”
But the shocking fact is that this is just one of 120 small businesses that are closing each and everyday. Stephen Alambritis, spokesman for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) warns that 32,000 small businesses will close this year, loosing around 150,000 jobs around the UK.
