Number of workplace accidents decreasing

Figures released by the Health and Safety Executive have reported a drop in the number of workplace accidents last year.

The figures, which reflected the number of health and safety incidents between April 2008 and March 2009, found a drop in the number of working days lost from 33.9 million to 29.3 million following a work related injury or illness. Fatalities across the country following a workplace accident also dropped from 233 to 180 workers.

Compared to the start of the decade, the number of major injuries in the workplace has decreased by nine percent, providing businesses and the industry with great news, however this does not compensate for the fact that each year workers are still being injured and even killed, affecting families across the UK.
