What would you say if you were shopping and you received a text message from your parking meter to say that your allocated parking time had run out and you have been issued a fine? This could be the reality of British parking.
The new idea has been put in place by over 60 councils in France, giving parkers 20 minutes free parking texting them after 15 to say that your time is nearly up, offering the chance by text to pay for longer parking. The machines can pick up the vehicle metal mass and can detect a car staying over the time. If someone has stayed over his or her time, not only do the meters inform the driver, they alert the police too.
A variety of meters have been introduced including meters for disabled drivers. Each disabled driver will be issued with a magnetic badge to authorise parking in the allocated disabled parking spaces. If someone without a badge parks in the spaces, the police will be immediately be informed by the parking meter.
The meter is designed to make the turn over of shoppers more, texting you after 15 minutes and then again if you have over stayed. This could rid the world of parking attendants strolling up and down the UK’s Car parks.
