Penny-less Students conned out of more money

A warning has been released to Students as they rent their new homes for the new school year following a recent landlord's scam.

The scam involves landlords conning the unsuspecting students out of money by giving them the details for a non-existing property; once they have the cash ,no keys are passed on to the tenant and the landlord becomes un-contactable.

Recently students in Belfast lost out on thousands of pounds when they were trapped by a fake private landlord; unfortunately these cases are on the rise according to the National Union of Students (NUS).

A Detective Sergeant from the Metropolitan Police commented on the matter that students should be wary when contacting landlords, especially if it's via email. They should also be wise in not giving out their bank details before they have looked at the property; A list of approved housing can be obtained from student unions or the Universities if you are searching for your new home.

Lower Premium provides house insurance, including contents insurance for your requirements. Let Property insurance can also be obtained from Lower Premium for student lets.
