A policeman, who let his home, has found that his property was being used to grow over 1,000 cannabis plants.
PC Neil Bramnar was letting the small cottage that he owns in Dornoch, Sutherland to a student Jing Hai Zeng, who became part of an operation with a group of Chinese immigrants to grow the plants, which had a street value of £340,000.
The property was raided by police who had been given a tip off, finding the property covered in the plants and the special equipment needed for their growth.
Jing Hai Zeng was charged with playing his part in the cultivation of cannabis, however he only walked away with a charge of £10,000 as opposed to imprisonment due to the fact he was not dealing the drugs.
Landlords are reminded that unfortunately they cannot avoid being hit by this crime; however by doing regular spot checks on their properties they may be able to prevent it.
