Plans by the Government to implement qualifications for people who drive a vehicle as part of their work have been applauded by road safety campaigners.
A Department for Transport (DfT) announcement last week that it will be working with insurers and employers to come up with new courses and qualifications, that will be taken after the standard driving test, to help lower insurance premiums and give more options for careers in the driving sector.
Roadsafe, the occupational road risk management organisation, believes that such qualifications could impact significantly the recruitment procedure of companies that regularly use road transport during their operations.
Employees driving company vehicles or their own mode of transport for business purposes are undertaking a dangerous task according to a spokesman at Roadsafe and having adequate training would help to reduce the risk of on the job accidents involving vehicles.
The DfT have also indicated that specific vehicle courses may become available, such as for vans
