Recession leads to desperation to shoplift

Following the desperation of people during the recession a recent report has exposed that last year shoplifting increased by 10 percent.

The report, which was carried out by the Conservative Retail Crime Commission, has shown that desperation has got the best of many brits, leading them to shoplift to enable them to purchase new things.

Shoplifting has become more of a serious crime as the impact could lead to the downfall of many UK businesses. Since 1997 50 percent of people arrested due to shoplifting were sentenced.

£5 million will be contributed by the Home Office to small businesses to help them put a stop to the crime by enabling them to install equipment to monitor shoplifting, and as CCTV facilities become more compact it means small shops can begin to benefit.
