Homes and businesses may reconsider their use of the Royal Mail following decisions to increase the price of stamps again next April.
The current cost of a first class stamp is 39p, and for a second class 30p, however the new price increases will implement an extra 3p for first class and 2p for second, a cost that has not been seen as good news to many business owners.
Currently the Royal Mail expects to see a 10 percent decline in its usage for parcel and letter deliveries as more people choose to use email and businesses look to use other couriers for their parcel deliveries that are more cost effective. Without the increase in prices, the Royal Mail fears that they will be losing more and more money; already they have seen staff striking as they fear for the safety of their jobs as they look to more streamline, more cost effective processes.
A nationwide postal strike looks to take place shortly, with an announcement made by the Communication Workers Union on 8 or 9 October.
