It seems that every industry is being affected by the economic recession businesses and factories have had to close down due to difficult financial circumstance, even well known high street chains like Woolworths have entered into administration.
The latest new industry to be affected by the ‘credit crunch’ is the Inverness salmon factory, having recently announced that it will be closing its doors for good on Friday.
Unfortunately over 326 managers, packers and factory floor workers have accepted redundancy packages, where others have decided to relocate jobs to the salmon companies Grimsby and Fraserburgh branches.
Strathaird Salmon released a statement saying that they believed that they had the facilities to reabsorb all their workers into the other departments of the Seafood Company, owners of the Inverness processing plant. However they understood that many workers would not wish to relocate over 100 miles to other factories.
They also announced that original ideas to invest over £7 million in the Inverness plant had proved un-economical and it made more sense to move their smoked salmon processing activities to their Fraserbrugh location.
