Emergency services were called to a house in the Isle of Man on Monday evening, September 14, after their dinner caught fire.
The family had been using a chip pan to cook dinner when the oil in the pan got too hot causing it to set ablaze, causing unsightly damage to the kitchen.
Occupants of the family home on Edremony Estate in Port Erin were unaware of the pandemonium in the kitchen until they saw smoke as the smoke alarms had been turned off. The fire-service was called to the home and due to the amount of smoke, they had to enter the property wearing breathing apparatus to tackle the flames.
All three occupants escaped the fire with no injuries, except smoke damage, which could have been prevented if the smoke alarms were in use. It is a blessing that no previous incident was caused in the home during the night as they may have not been so lucky.
The next hurdle for the occupants is to make sure that they have the correct house insurance for their home, protecting them against fire damage.
