Tenants across the UK have been warned about the dangers that carbon monoxide poisoning pose. The Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week is underway and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) are using this week to urge tenants to take more time to acknowledge and understand the dangers that come from exposure to carbon monoxide.
It is a landlord's duty to ensure that their property is safe and habitable for their tenants, which does include the constant check of all gas and electrical appliances. The result of a faulty gas heater can lead to a carbon monoxide leak that will put the lives of the occupants at risk.
A spokes person for APIL said: "In the UK, around 20 people die every year from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas appliances and flues which have not been properly installed and maintained, or are poorly ventilated, and hundreds more are seriously injured."
