Unoccupied property burgled for boiler

An unoccupied rented property was broken into by two men who cut out the boiler, which they planned to sell as scrap.

The house was a few doors away from one of the burglar’s homes, so they had been aware that the property had been unoccupied for some time. They entered into the property at night, however disturbed a neighbour who heard voices.

The two men were caught red handed as they sawed through the pipe work of the boiler, causing an estimated £700 worth of damage

The court heard that they both took it in turns to saw through the pipes, whilst the other held a mobile phone for some light. Each of the men were fined £350 in compensation, £60 of costs and ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid work.
