Vesta protesters enter 15th day

The on-going battle between workers at the Isle of Wight wind turbine blade manufacturing plant and the Danish company Vesta who owns the site has now reached its fifteenth day.

In support of the workers sit out another five protesters have climbed the Vesta Venture Quay building during the internationally famous Cowes Regatta, however the party are trying to highlight the green cost of shutting Britain's only wind turbine factory.

Martin Shaw a member of the most recent protesters explained that although they support the work of the former Vesta workers currently barricaded in the factory building and their right to employment and to support their families, the 'climate camp' campaigners also want to emphasise the lack of government support for green manufacturers.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers, (RMT) have released reports saying that security guards are trying to starve out the barricaded protesters by restricting access to food and drink parcels.

However as an added twist to the tale, Vesta have been supplying twice daily meals for the sit-in protestors and a spokesman argued that if protesters “didn't like what was on the menu, they were free to leave.”

The plant, which was due to shut in July, has been pushed back to the August 10, however 11 of the identified protesters have already been sacked.
