£75,000 has been fined to a Waste Management Company in Wales, who were prosecuted of breaching section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, following the death of an 18 year old employee that could have been made avoidable should correct Health and Safety precautions been put in place.
The employee died at the companies waste management depot after being struck down by a reversing skip loader lorry in the yards tipping area whilst he walked behind the vehicle that did not have any visual aids, warning alarms or guidance.
Should the site been planned out correctly to ensure separation between manoeuvring vehicles and employees, this unfortunate accident could have been avoided and the worker could still be alive today.
50 deaths and 1,449 major accidents were caused in 2006/7 by vehicles at work.
