Worker loses leg in workplace accident

Following a Health and Safety breach a Dungiven company in Northern Ireland has been fined over £35,000 after an employee lost his leg.

The worker, who was driving a dumper truck on an inclined road, lost his leg after the vehicle overturned and landed on both his legs.

The landfill site pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the safety of its employees by not providing an adequate safe system of work. The worker in this incident had also not be provided with sufficient training or instruction.

The company was fined £35,000, including £2,539 in costs following the investigation made by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland.
