Youngest yachtsman breaks world challenge

The youngest round the world open yacht racing sailor, entered port in British waters after his famous world record attempt on the morning of Thursday 27 August.

Mike Perham, who sailed alone across the Atlantic aged 14, has just complete his solo round the world journey as the youngest ever yachtsman to make the attempt. His family have been on baited breath ever since he left Portsmouth on November 15 2008. He celebrated Christmas and his birthday whilst one board his boat.

Despite some of the risky hazards that faced Perham including giant waves, equipment malfunction, overturning and of course psychological boredom and loneliness, he is still set to make the finish line between Lizard Point and Ushant, France.

Craig Glenday from the Guinness World Records summed up Perham achievement by commenting that even "the most experienced sailors", let alone one of just 17 would be tested by the "shear mental and physical stamina needed to achieve a record of this magnitude."
